Two Jacksonville Servicemen are among the latest victims of the Vietnam conflict.
Marine Cpl. William Thomas Cumbie, son of Mrs. Charles Stenbeck of 2532 Forbes St.;
and Army Spec. 4 Dewy Dolen Ruis Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Dolen Ruis Sr. of
3052 Columbus Ave., were the latest casualties.
Funeral services for Spec. 4 Ruis, 20, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodstock
Baptist Church. Rev. Paul O. lee, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen
Cemetery. Hardage and Sons Nothside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Spec. 4 Ruis died Feb. 5 from wounds received in combat. He was a native of Vidalia, Ga.,
and had lived here most of his life. He was a 1966 graduate of Paxon High School.
Surviving besides his parents are two sisters, Patricia Jean Ruis and Ruby Annette Ruis
both of Jacksonville.
Funeral services for Cpl. Cumbie are incomplete and will be announced by Giddens
Funeral Home.
He was a dog handler with the First Scout Dog Platoon of the 26th Marine Division
and had been in Vietnam for a year. He died Feb. 9 as a result of wounds received
in Hoa Quang Province. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Surviving besides his mother are a stepfather, Charles Stenbeck; two sisters, Mrs. Betty
Cable of Jacksonville and Mrs. Linda Wall of St. Augustine; and three brothers,
James Roy Cumbie, Charles Stenbeck and Michael Stenbeck, all of Jacksonville.
